My paintings contain curved lines and rounded shapes, organic in nature and reflective of natural phenomena. These have sometimes been influenced by patterns and forms I’m exposed to while working at a natural history museum: bones, sediments, and fossilized plants and invertebrates. I work these organic elements into compositions which are sometimes spontaneous and sometimes visualized beforehand. Through repetition and interaction, the individual parts often form an emergent pattern.
My process in oil painting has been influenced by two other mediums I’ve been recently using: oil pastel and acrylic-based ink. I end up using multiple layers in an additive-subtractive approach, both adding and removing paint.
