Artist Statement

My current work is abstract - a series of attempts to describe things which are not directly expressible or describable in words. I originally arrived at abstraction through painting landscapes, but gradually the need to depict a place fell away. While abstraction accepts that a painting or drawing is a flat surface rather than a window, all images have remained spatial to me, with some forms moving forward and some receding. I am interested in the microscopic and also in the vast emptiness of space, as well as the vitality or life force that seems to be in those things that exist.
